Disclaimer

The terms and limits that apply to the guides, network tools and learning resources published on Network Admin Journey. Please read it before applying anything you find here to a production network.

This Disclaimer explains the limits of the information, tools and resources published by Network Admin Journey on roadtoneteng.com. Our goal is to help network administrators and aspiring network engineers learn and grow, but every network is different, and what works in one environment can cause an outage in another. Please read this page carefully before relying on anything you find here.

This Disclaimer should be read together with our Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy, Editorial Policy and Refund & Cancellation Policy. If anything on this page conflicts with a signed engagement agreement, the engagement agreement takes precedence for that engagement.

General information

All content on this website, including long-form articles, the learning roadmap, the interactive network tools, FAQ answers, downloadable checklists and any other material (together, the “Content”), is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It is published in good faith and we make reasonable efforts to keep it accurate and current, but we make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the completeness, accuracy, reliability, suitability or availability of the Content for any particular purpose.

Any reliance you place on the Content is strictly at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Network Admin Journey will not be liable for any loss or damage, including without limitation indirect or consequential loss, network downtime, data loss, security incidents, lost revenue or lost productivity, arising from or in connection with the use of this website or the Content.

Nothing in this Disclaimer limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under the law that applies to you, including statutory consumer rights in the European Union, the United Kingdom or elsewhere.

Technical and educational content

Our guides cover topics such as subnetting, VLANs, OSPF, BGP, firewall hardening and network automation. They frequently include example configurations, command-line snippets, scripts and Ansible playbooks. These examples are illustrations written to explain a concept. They are not ready-made configurations for your environment.

Always test in a lab first

Before applying any configuration, command or script from this website to a live network, you should validate it in a non-production environment such as a virtual lab (for example using an emulator or simulator) or a physical test bench. Our guide to building a home network lab explains one way to do this. Behavior can differ significantly between vendors, hardware platforms, software trains, licence levels and even minor firmware releases, and a command that is harmless on one device may reload, reset or lock out another.

Follow your change-control process

If you manage a network on behalf of an employer or client, you are responsible for following their change-management procedures. As a minimum, we strongly recommend that you:

  • back up the running and startup configurations of every device you intend to change;
  • document the planned change, its expected impact and a tested rollback plan;
  • obtain the required approvals and schedule changes in an agreed maintenance window;
  • ensure you have out-of-band or console access in case remote management is lost;
  • verify the result after the change and record it in your network documentation.

Security-related content, including firewall rules, access control lists and hardening checklists, reduces risk but cannot eliminate it. No guide on this website guarantees that your network will be secure, compliant with any standard or free from vulnerabilities.

Currency of information

Networking technology, vendor software and best practices change constantly. An article that was accurate when published may become outdated when a vendor changes default behavior, deprecates a feature or issues a security advisory. We review and update content as described in our Editorial Policy, but we cannot guarantee that every page reflects the latest release or advisory at the moment you read it. Always consult the official vendor documentation and release notes for the exact platform and version you are running.

No professional-advice relationship

Reading our articles, using our tools, sending us a message through the contact form or commenting on a post does not create a consulting, advisory or other professional relationship between you and Network Admin Journey. General content cannot take into account your topology, business requirements, regulatory obligations, risk tolerance or budget.

A professional relationship begins only when you purchase one of our services, such as a Network Health Assessment or the CCNA Mentorship Program, through our checkout, or when you sign a separate written engagement agreement with us. The scope, deliverables, responsibilities and limitations of that relationship are then defined by the product description, our Terms and Conditions and any statement of work agreed for that engagement. Even within an engagement, recommendations are based on the information and access you provide, and you remain responsible for approving and implementing changes on your own systems unless we have expressly agreed otherwise in writing.

Certification and exam disclaimer

Network Admin Journey is an independent educational and consulting resource. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or otherwise associated with Cisco Systems, Inc., CompTIA, Inc., Juniper Networks, Inc., Fortinet, Inc., Palo Alto Networks, Inc., Microsoft Corporation, Amazon Web Services, Inc., the Linux Foundation, Pearson VUE or any other vendor, certification body or exam delivery provider mentioned on this website.

Names such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, JNCIA and JNCIP, along with all related product names, logos and certification marks, are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners. They are used on this website for identification and descriptive purposes only, and their use does not imply any endorsement.

Our CCNA study plan, learning roadmap and mentorship services are designed to help you build genuine understanding and practical skills. We do not provide, sell or distribute actual exam questions (“braindumps”), and we do not guarantee that you will pass any exam, achieve a particular score, obtain a job or reach a specific salary. Exam objectives, formats, prices and policies are set by the certification bodies and can change at any time, so please check the official exam blueprint before you schedule an exam.

Accuracy of network tools

Our network tools, including the subnet calculator and any other calculators, converters or reference utilities we publish, are provided as learning and planning aids. We test them carefully, but they may contain bugs, may not handle every edge case (for example unusual prefix lengths, reserved or special-purpose address ranges, or IPv6 notation variants) and may produce results that differ from how a specific vendor implements a feature.

  • Double-check any output before using it in an addressing plan, firewall rule, routing configuration or design document.
  • Do not rely on the tools as the sole basis for decisions in production, safety-critical or compliance-sensitive environments.
  • Results are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind.

Where a tool runs in your browser, the values you enter are processed locally on your device. Please see our Privacy Policy for details of what data, if any, is collected when you use the website. If you find an error in one of our tools, we would be grateful if you reported it using the details in the Contact us section below.

The Content often links to external websites, such as vendor documentation, RFCs published by the IETF, standards bodies, open-source projects and other educational resources. We include these links because we believe they are useful, but we do not control those websites and we are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, security or privacy practices. A link does not imply that we endorse the website, its owner or any product or service offered there.

Product, vendor and tool recommendations in our articles reflect our own independent judgement.

If this changes in the future, for example if we join an affiliate program or accept sponsorship, we will clearly disclose the relationship on the affected pages, close to the relevant link or recommendation, and update this section accordingly, in line with applicable rules such as the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides and equivalent requirements in the EU and UK. The only commercial offerings on this website are our own consulting and mentoring services, which are clearly identified as such and sold through our shop.

Errors and omissions

Although we take care when researching, testing and editing our Content, it may contain technical inaccuracies, typographical errors or omissions. Commands may be shown with simplified output, topologies may be reduced for clarity, and some optional or vendor-specific steps may be left out to keep an explanation focused. We reserve the right to correct errors and to change or remove Content at any time without notice.

If you spot a mistake, please tell us. We review every report and, where a correction is warranted, update the page as described in the corrections section of our Editorial Policy.

Examples and results

Any scenarios, case examples or sample outcomes described on this website are illustrative. Results depend on many factors outside our control, including your existing infrastructure, your team’s skills, the time you invest and the decisions you make. We do not promise any specific technical, career or financial outcome from using our Content or services.

This Disclaimer and the other policy pages on this website are provided to explain how we operate. They are not legal advice. Where our Content touches on topics such as data protection, security compliance frameworks or licensing, it is general information only. If you need advice about your legal or regulatory obligations, please consult a qualified legal professional in your jurisdiction.
